References

References are people who can speak about an applicant's professional experience, skills, character or working style.

In the performing arts, references may include artistic directors, choreographers, rehearsal directors, teachers, producers, mentors, previous employers or collaborators.

References can help companies understand how someone works in a studio, rehearsal process, company environment or creative collaboration. They may give insight into reliability, professionalism, teamwork, adaptability, communication and artistic growth.

Some opportunities ask applicants to provide reference names and contact details during the application process, while others request references later in the selection stage. When references are requested, applicants should make sure the people listed are informed and comfortable being contacted.
