Self-Tape

A self-tape is a recorded audition video created and submitted by an applicant.

In dance, theatre, musical theatre and screen-based work, self-tapes are often used during the first stage of selection. They allow companies, directors or casting teams to review applicants before deciding who to invite to a live audition, callback or next round.

A self-tape may include a solo, repertoire phrase, improvisation, monologue, song, movement task or introduction video, depending on the opportunity.

A clear self-tape process helps applicants understand what to prepare and gives hiring teams consistent materials to review.
